George and Caroline Drew ( sometimes spelt Drewe ) arrived in Tasmania in 1843. As a Commander in the Royal Navy, George was offered and accepted the position as Superintendent of the Impression Bay establisment south of the Port Arthur penal settlement.
On the 8th September 1849, George was Captain of the "KANGAROO".
In the city of Tamar, in the Council Electoral Roll of 1856, George Drew is listed as a Retired Naval Officer.
George and Caroline returned to England sometime after 1856. George may have been in Tasmania in 1864, so they may have returned after 1864. Caroline died in 1866 in England.
In the 1871 Censes, George is listed as living in the township of St. Andrews. His neice, Susan R. Stevens, is staying at the residence. Susan is listed as being born at Plymounth, Devon, in 1829. Also listed in the household is a servant, Martha Hellman, from Launceston, Cornwall, born about 1843.
