On registration on her son William in 1855 Mary is stated to be 29 years old and born in Libberton, Edinburghshire, which means that she should have been born around 1826. This information is contradicted by the age calculated from her Memorial Inscription, which shows she should have been born around 1823.

Shown on 1861 Midlothian census aged 39 years, born Liberton, living at 166 Wilson's Close, Dalkeith, with her husband William, and children Mary, Agnes, William and Margaret.

Memorial Inscription St. Nicholas Old Kirk, Dalkeith states:-

"Mary Grossert died 13th September 1884 aged 61 years..."
