You asked for any new information so here goes .. I think Thomas Weatherburn's father was Peter Weatherburn born in 1791 in Kyloe Northumberland and his mother was called MARY (as Joan suspected).
I found Peter in the 1841 census under Weatherban. I could find the same Peter Weatherburn in every census from 1841-71 inclusive. He was always living with Mary Weatherburn (daughter) but strangely he was only living with MARY (wife, born 1785) in the 1851 census. While Mary Weatherburn may have died befor 1861 census she must have been alive in 1841 - where was she?
I think the answer may be in 1841 she was in 'Gateshead Fell Lunatic Asylum' - see page 3 of the attached 9 page PDF file where I have bodged together all my print offs from Peter Weatherburn 1841-1871. It is the only Mary Weatherburn I can find in 1841 census that is not living with other family. What do you think?
My second query is unresolved as yet - in 1841 Peter Weatherburn also lived with a Mary Thompson (b 1835) - in 1851 she is still in the household and is marked as a grand-daughter (b Wooler, 1835). Have you ever heard of a THOMPSON in connection with Weatherburn's? I have not.

Census 1851 : Way to Wooler. Age 34 he was working as an agricultural labourer and living with his wife & 3 children. His birthplace was given as Tweedmouth.
Census 1871 : 5 Laverick Law, Lowick/Bowsden. Age 54 He was working as an Ag Labourer and living with his wife, 4 sons & 3 daughters. His birthplace was given as Morton, DUR.
