Notes for Janet (Jessie) (Spouse 1)
With regards Jessie born about 1810, hereby lies a puzzle. Jessie's husband Robert BEE was a witness at my husband's great grandparents Isabella & David's son William's marriage to Mary MURRAY in 1860. However, recently when I checked her death certificate I discovered that her son thought his grandfather's name was William who was a Blacksmith which is borne out by the naming pattern for their children, but he didn't know the name of his grandmother. Since Jessie and Robert name their first daughter Elizabeth, that is generally the female's mother's name, but not always. The only other daughter they have is called Margaret. Other than the marriage of William GROSART & Margaret MURRAY about 1810 which seems unlikely since all their children were born in and around Peebles, I haven't been able to find a marriage suitable for Jessie's parents and now wonder whether she might have been illegitimate. In the 1851 Census her place of birth is given as Liberton and she marries in the same area Liberton/Newton as Ebenezer & Margaret Morton's children. If she was illegitimate she may have been brought up by her grandparents which I have found to be the case with many illegitimate children. Or perhaps Ebenezer and Margaret Morton raised her if one of her parents died. Hopefully we might find the answer one day.
