Notes for William (Spouse 1)
He was the fifth son of Humphrey de Bohun, 4th Earl of Hereford and Elizabeth, Princess of England, of Rhuddlan. He had a twin brother, Edward. His maternal grandparents were Edward I of England and his first Queen consort Eleanor of Castile William was created Earl of Northampton in 1337, one of the six earls created by Edward III to renew the ranks of the higher nobility. Since de Bohun was a younger son, and did not have an income suitable to his rank, he was given an annuity until suitable estates could be found.
He served as High Sheriff of Rutland from 1349 until his death in 1360. In 1339 he accompanied the King to Flanders. He served variously in Brittany and in Scotland, and was present at the great English victories at Sluys and was a commander at Crécy. De Bohun was succeeded by his son Humphrey, who also succeeded his uncle and became 7th Earl of Hereford.
His daughter Elizabeth de Bohun was married to Richard FitzAlan, 11th Earl of Arundel.
Through his granddaughter Mary de Bohun, he was great-grandfather to Henry V of England.

Humphrey de Bohun, 7th Earl of Hereford, 6th Earl of Essex, 2nd Earl of Northampton, KG (1342 - 16 January 1373) was an important medieval English noble during the reign of King Edward III of England. He was the son of William de Bohun, 1st Earl of Northampton, and Elizabeth de Badlesmere and thus grandson of Humphrey de Bohun, 4th Earl of Hereford by Elizabeth of Rhuddlan, daughter of King Edward I. He became heir to his childless uncle Humphrey de Bohun, 6th Earl of Hereford. On his death, his great estates were divided between his two surviving daughters: Mary de Bohun, who married Henry Bolingbroke (the future Henry IV), and Eleanor de Bohun, who married Thomas of Woodstock. Humphrey's third daughter, Elizabeth, had died young. His wife and the mother of his daughters was Joan Fitzalan, daughter of Richard Fitzalan, 10th Earl of Arundel and Eleanor of Lancaster, whom he married after 9 September 1359.
