From Trix Saleeba:-
“ Was in the army in World War 1, went to Britain and mixed with high society. Lived with the Mayfair set in London. When he returned he always wore morning clothes, called “The Count”.
After the war he twice returned to Britain and would send home for money constantly. Eftiemus could not refuse him. Chris met his wife Sadie on the boat coming home. She was the daughter of the Bailey wine family, and the only girl among 4 brothers. They owned vineyards at Glen Rowan and ?Taminick. The family home is opposite the Sacred Heart hospital in Moreland Rd., Brunswick.
Sadie’s father loved Chris and gave him management of the Bailey wine shop in Sydney Rd., Brunswick. This Chris promptly ruined. Before that Eftiemus had retired and given the Moonee Ponds business to Chris who ruined it in 2 years.
Sadie and Chris separated in 1936?. They never divorced, but never lived as a couple again. Sadie looked after the children.
Christy became a bookmaker’s clerk at Flemington racecourse, the place he had gambled away most of his money. He had always been a compulsive liar but he became worse. he got a job as a clerk in Govt. offices in William St. He told his family that he was the manager. He worked there until his death.
He died of pneumonia in the Royal Melb hospital in Feb 1956. He told the staff he had no family. Graeme found him. He refused to acknowledge his children when they came to visit.
He left a single room in a boarding house filled with betting magazines piled up on the walls.”
1943 Elec Roll is with Malina May Saleeba at 431 Melbourne Rd Newport????
