Notes for George White (Spouse 1)
George was dux of the school but could take no part in sport as at the age of nine he had fallen off a swing and damaged his kneecap. This had been badly set and he limped for the rest of his life with a silver nail holding the joint. After school he went to Edinburgh University and New College to study for the Ministry which had been his ambition from his earliest days. The family had a flat at Falcon Avenue where George, Jean and Beth lived and pursued their studies.
The Rev George Dalgleish now spent a year in missionary work in New Brunswick, Canada, and returned to this country where he was Assistant minister at Queen Anne St. U.F. Church in Dunfermline (now the Erskine Church) and then at Alloa Church (the Forrester-Paton Church).
At Dunfermline he met Agnes Robertha Martin to whom he became engaged and married in the Roxburgh Hotel in 1914 having accepted a call to King St. U.F. Church, Kirkwall where he spent the next few years. He was Chaplain to the fleet in Scapa Flow. He next went to Martyrs and St JohnÃs U. F Church, Edinburgh then to Culsalmond U.F. (later south) church and Monymusk Parish Church where he was when he died in 1950 at the age of 64.
